What is the procedure for an antigen rapid test?
Antigen tests are carried out in three simple steps:
- A swab is taken from the nasal cavity.
- The sample is dissolved in the buffer liquid by rotation and stirring. Afterwards, the test stick can be removed again and disposed of properly.
- Four drops of the collected sample are poured onto the designated sample receptacle.
After 15 minutes, the result can be read.
What is the difference between PCR and antigen tests?
The PCR test is the most accurate method to date for testing people for SARS-CoV-2. However, it is usually cost-intensive and must be evaluated in a professional laboratory, whereas Flowflex - SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid Tests are easy to perform and can be evaluated within a few minutes.
How reliable are rapid antigen tests?
On average, antigen tests detect about 80 per cent of infected persons. An antigen test is therefore not sufficient to rule out a suspected case 100%. However, this also applies to PCR tests. Thus, rapid antigen tests offer a good complement to the PCR test for broad and scalable screening programmes.
